Super Prom Five was a crazy day. It didn't start until 4:00, which is two hours later than usual. But, there was much more work to do to get ready. We had 99 red balloons to blow up, with our free helium tank, plus there was beer to buy, in addition to the pool vacuuming and dog-poop-clean-up that's standard at any Super Prom. So at 4:00 we weren't ready. Dave wasn't even there because he was off buying beer. But I didn't let that bother me, at 4:00 I was in the pool and Super Prom had begun.
Beer and Super Prom go well together, that's what I learned. And I don't think anyone would disagree. Things went pretty much the same as past Super Proms, but with drunk people. And a lot of them! Attendance doubled from Super Prom 97 to Super Prom 98. As expected, people who didn't know each other didn't talk to each other; as far as I can tell the two mystery CIA girls Seth brought only talked to each other and the dogs. Tech people stayed on the deck, Drexel people stayed on a different area of the deck, and the old school Super Promers stayed in the Gazebo. Some of the more adventurous folk did play crouquet and/or jump on the trampoline. Not much Stomp Rocket this year. My family stayed inside, as per usual. So I pretty much wandered around aimlessly drinking and smoking talking to different people, never staying in the same place long enough to have any meaningful sort of experience. And I did go inside a lot to reassure my mom that she wasn't going to get arrested for furnishing.
Dave and Ashleigh were King and Queen in 97, so they got to choose their successors. This was an idea that Dave and I had so that he would be able to pick me to be King. But the cocksucker chose Bill. So at 99 the rules will be different. Perhaps there will be a ballott, and I will count the votes. That seems more fair. Anyways, Dave and Ashleigh made some sweet crowns, and Bill and Jen won them. Then they put paper bags on their heads and dove in the pool, but not together like they're supposed to. Heather and I would have done it right! Plus Heather and I were the only couple to dance together to Eternal Flame, and that's what Super Prom is all about.
What else... There was a Slip N' Slide, but unless you were quick you wouldn't have noticed it. It was only out for about ten minutes. It was cold, and after people got off it they were covered in grass clippings and other filth-muck. I didn't go on it, I think I was too busy drinking and smoking.
An even more exciting additiion at Super Prom Five was Fun Island. There was a lot of speculation on how well Fun Island would do in a Super Prom environment, many thought it would quickly be popped, while others unfamilar with Fun Island were skeptical as to just how cool it was. As Shawn said, "Fun Island is a big name to live up to." But Fun Island survived, and was enjoyed by all. Especially by me when I was on it with Heather, Kristi and Taylor.
Chicken Limbo? YES! Chicken Limbo was back at Super Prom Five, after a mysterious and disturbing absence at Super Prom 97. Dave somehow got crawl every time, and was admonished by Grant for it. That's right, Grant was playing Chicken Limbo, and I know how to use admonished in a sentence. I discovered once again that I can't limbo under a chicken two feet off the ground. I was squawked at repeatedly, and contemplated kicking that stupid little chicken's ass, but I held myself back.
At about 1:00 a very unfortunate thing happened. The 10 cases of beer we bought were empty. So Jim and Kristi went off to get two cases and some more smokes. Unfortunately in my calculation of how much beer they should get, I didn't take into consideration anything, especially the fact that most people would be gone by the time they got back, and others had stopped drinking. So Jim and Kristi returned about 2:00, with a case more than we needed, and we started drinking again. And there was much rejoicing. My memory gets foggy here, I just remember people leaving one by one throughout the night, until eventually Grant, Jim and I were the only ones left. We were in the Gazebo, drinking, smoking, and drinking. Then Matt Morgan came out from the basement for a brief stint. He drank a beer and then he and Grant returned to the underbelly of my home. Meanwhile Jim passed out in his chair with a full beer in his hand. So I was left alone. This means only one thing, time to clean up. So there I was, stumbling around on the concrete in my bare feet, beer in hand, picking up all the trash. At some point Jim woke up, and I guided him into the basement. Then I continued my quest for a clean backyard. By the time I was done it was light out, there was no trash anywhere, and my feet were a bloody mess. So it was time for bed. I saw the Fun Island in the pool, and decided it would be good to sleep on. So I got on it and tried to sleep. But it moved too much, and I couldn't fall asleep. The last thing I remember is getting off Fun Island. I woke up in bed, and started planning Super Prom 99.
