Chickens,

A year has past, and another November is upon us. It is nearly
Thanksgiving, and once again our thoughts turn to Pilgrims, eating
Turkey, Adam Sandler's funny Thanksgiving song, and of course, Super
Prom. Because as we all know, the day after Thanksgiving not only the
start of Christmas season, but the start of Super Prom planning season
as well.

The first Super Prom planning meeting will be held on Friday, November
26. You should be there. Unlike Super Prom itself, attendance is not
mandatory, but if no one shows up I can't be held responsible for what
happens. If I have to do everything alone I might mess everything up
and we could end up with Super Prom where Zima is the only alcohol
available, Sheryl Crow's cover of "Sweet Child O' Mine" is theme, and
it's held on a Tuesday night in March from 8:00-9:00. So that's no good.

There are some things I have specifically in mind to discuss. The most
important of course is what to call this Super Prom, will it be SP2K,
Super Prom 7, Super Prom 2000, SP7, Super Prom VII, SPVII, Super Prom
Seven, or some other variation? The answer will be SP2K of course, but
it should at least be discussed. Then there is the matter of
fundraising, because Dave and I will be broke this summer after spending
all of our money drinking after graduation. I have an idea for a Trivia
Contest Fundraiser, something like "Who wants to be a Chicken-Head?"
Another important thing to think about is how to spell "Supromolympics",
and how my invention of that word will come into play this year.

Anyways, those of you who will be in XXXXXXXXXXXX that day have no
excuse not to come, those of you in places less than 2
hours away should make the trip. It'll be fun. Those in Boston, San
Fransisco, Denver, etc, should probably not come, save the plane ticket
money for Super Prom itself.

If you're coming, call me so I can tell you when we're starting, and
where we'll be. I'm not sure if it can be in my basement because last I
checked it was all messed up, so we might need an alternative meeting
place (Shawn, Kristen, Greg ???) I'm at XXX XXX-XXXX until this Friday
morning, and at (XXX) XXX-XXXX after Monday. Between Friday and Monday
I will be nearly impossible to find, unless you are also watching Tech
beat Temple.

Please pass the word onto other Super Promers who did not receive the
message. Specifically Glen, Meyers, Bill, Kristi, Taylor, Emily, etc.
Do not pass this on to anyone who.... how can I put this nicely? ---Is
still in high school!! Sorry, but that's just a rule I'm going to have
to set.

See you at Super Prom,
Matt Berry
President,
Super Prom Committee
Note: after the previous message was sent out, several people replied to all, including a controversial drunken message from Shawn. After receiving numerous complaints, I sent out the following email.

Subject: Second Message about Super Prom 2000
Date: 11/18/1999 3:03 AM
Chickens,

Hmm. I used to send out all of my SP emails BCC so no one could reply to
all. I didn't bother doing that this time because I thought we were all
mature enough not to. Shawn, Jim, Dave, and Matt Beres have all lost 5
points. Allow me to make a rule from now on that Abusing the Super Prom
List is prohibited, and violators will not be receiving a ticket to SP2K.

On another note. The Tech - BC game is scheduled for Friday, the same day
as the SP meeting. I played around with the idea of having the meeting the
day before Thanksgiving so that I could go, but I've decided not to do this,
for 2 reasons. One, were the meeting held two days early, it could have
catastrophic repercussions, putting everything 2 days early for the rest of
the year, and SP would end up being on a Thursday. Two, the purpose of
Thanksgiving Break is to get out of Blacksburg, which at this time I am
completely sick of, and to hang out with people who don't live in
Blacksburg. Were I attending the game, I would be violating the very reason
that Break exists in the first place.

Nevertheless, I will be watching the game, which is set to begin at 2:30,
and should be ending around 6:00. Therefore why don't we begin the SP
planning meeting at 7:00? At this point I think I've narrowed it down to
either being in my basement, or at Kristen Keo's. (Greg your house is too
alcohol-free for our needs - while SPPM1 is not about drinking, some
drinking is good, and Shawn your house is generally not available that
early.)

In the meantime, all of you stay cool, root for the Hokies, and start
thinking about what you want Super Prom to be like.

Matt

http://fbox.vt.edu/M/maberry2
Hence the point system was born.

Further note: Greg then replied to all. Because of his response we couldn't send him a ticket, which is why nobody got a ticket to Super Prom this year, but rather a piece of the singe ticket.

Subject: What are you doing this summer?
Date: Thursday, January 27, 2000 1:47 AM
Dear Chico, Gerg, Shmee, Ash, Risė, Jen, Biran, Heather-Lise, JC, Craig,
JP, Morgan, Trevor, Tay, Heather, Grant, Brad, M, Ive, Dan, Joe, Leah,
Smokey, Shawankie, Sam, Jody, Kait, Keo, Kathy, Taint, Bo, Emily,
Melanie, Scott, Jenny P, Sirrka, Amy and Pop,

The new year is well underway. By now we've all broken our resolutions,
stopped writing 99 on our checks and other assorted documents, and have
nearly recovered from our New Year's hangover. And now that all of
these beginning-of-the-year issues are settled, I'm sure that now you
are thinking, "When is Super Prom going to be?" It is of course the
most important day of the year, so it is important to know when it is
going to be to start the year off right. So I'd like to address that
issue at this time.

As some of you may know, Dave and I are planning to take a cross-country
adventure this summer, leaving around June 11, and getting back around
July 12. Which means that Super Prom can't be during that time, because
while I do have a lot of confidence in Greg, I don't think he could hold
a very good SP with 2/3 of the committee missing. So I propose having
SP2K on July 22. That's the fourth Saturday in July. The other
possible dates are July 29, August 5, and August 12. On August 19 Scott
and Jen are getting married, so we probably should avoid that day,
because unlike me they probably don't think that getting married at
Super Prom is the ideal wedding.

So this is what you should do: Email me back and let me know if you
have any conflicts or any preferences on those four (4) Saturdays. If
there are no conflicts we'll have it on 7-22. Otherwise, we'll go in
this order of priority:

1. Me, Dave, Greg, and my parents,
2. People who have never been to Super Prom - (Jim, I may need a report
from you of Jason's status on this issue.)
3. People who have been to every Super Prom, or at least a lot of them.
4. Hot Girls.
5. Everyone else.

The positive and negative point values that some of you have accrued so
far this year may also play a role, as well as your record of past Super
Prom achievements.

Also, be sure to continously check the web page for more details, it
will be especially useful once it comes time to pick a theme.

It's February 1st, do you know when your next Prom is?

Yes Matt, you told us in your last message, July 22, why are you sending
another mass email 5 days later?

Because you're wrong, Mister Smartie Pants! Super Prom is August
5th!!!!!!

I'm sure you're confused, so I will explain. It seems my parents have
decided to be in Alaska on July 22, and also for about 16 other days in
July. And having Super Prom when my parent's weren't there would be a
great idea, if we never wanted to have Super Prom ever again! At least
not at their house. And since I'm going to Grad school for the next 2
years, and still won't be able to afford a house with a pool and Gazebo
for a few years after that, for now we must all abide by Suzie B's
rules. Besides, it would be no fun without my parents, and they are the
reigning King and Queen.

So, pretty much it turns out that August 5th is the only possible day
for Super Proming. If you have conflicts, I'm truly sorry, but you'll
have to figure a way to reschedule your other plans. I am giving you 6
months and 4 days notice, so I expect you to be there!! And not only do
I, but so does everyone else. Super Prom can only work if everyone is
there. Remember, the only acceptable excuse for missing Super Prom is
being off the continent. Contrary to the belief that some of you may
have, being in Atlanta, Boston, or even California is not an acceptable
excuse. I may have accepted Canada for SP 97 but no more! If Brian is
willing to fly from San Fransisco than you should too, even if you are
getting married 2 weeks later.

To justify sending out 2 mass mailings in a row I thought this one
should also be a bridge to the next phase of SP planning, and therefore,
the SP page now has a Theme Page where suggestions can be made. Go
nuts.

-Your Humble President

Note: I decided to take a chance and actually make the addresses visible
this time, I do this because:
A. I think its important for everyone to know who is getting these
messages,
B. I spend a lot of time compiling these email lists and I think you
might find them useful (some names have been added since the last
message)
C. I trust no one will abuse the list, (Remember - if you don't know
who someone is, you probably shouldn't be sending them messages - let me
remind you that you will lose points, and penalties may include a
non-invite to SP2K!)
and
D. This is a good email list to use when you start planning my surprise
graduation party. (Be sure to take my name off the list!)

Hey people,

Well, my records show that I haven't sent out a Super Prom message in
over a month, which is clearly unacceptable. Even more unacceptable is
the fact that during that month you guys only sent in 10 suggestions for
Super Prom theme. What's wrong with you people? From over 40 people I
expect hundreds of suggestions. It's not like you have anything better
to do than sit around and think about Super Prom.

Anyway, the important thing for you to know now is that a deadline has
been set for theme suggestions, March 20. So get them in now! Right
now Dave and Jim are tied with 2 suggestions each. Grant is winning in
the comments category, for saying "I will punch you in the head" along
with his suggestion of Weird Al's hit "My Bologna".

After the 20th, there will be an online voting set-up to narrow the
choices down, sort of like a primary election. Once that's done I'll
make tapes and we'll have another Gala, hopefully with better results
than last year. My goal this year is for the theme to actually be on
the ballot. I really would like for the theme to be the song that wins
the vote, but that's up to you - this process only works if you vote for
the song that I like best. Actually, things are looking pretty good
right now, there's well over 10 songs on the suggestion list that I'd
like to see theme, so we just might have a fair vote this year.

In other news... I've added an exciting new page to the site, a
committees page. This tells you all about the committees that will be
involved in planning SP2K, and what their current status is. This will
also give you a chance to get more involved in SP planning and
preparation, which I know you have been dying to do. If the committee
chairs want to send me status reports I'll post them on that page. Also
let me know if you want to be on a committee or run one that doesn't
have a chair yet.

Well, that's all for now. Send me mail, send me mail, send me mail.

Subject: Rock the Vote!
Date: 3/21/2000 4:15 AM
Hello All,

First - This is for all you new people (That is newly added to the
mailing list), Super Prom is August 5th, mark your calender, clear your
schedule, buy your plane tickets, and cancel any trips to Africa you may
be planning for that time!

Second - in my continuing effort to not spend anytime on my design
project, I have just completed a major update to the page. The deadline
for theme nominations passed 4 hours ago, and since I am always on top
of things I have moved to Stage Two of theme selection. This is where
we throw all the crap out of the 86 songs that have been nominated for
theme. And believe me, there is a lot of crap up there.

So, here's what you do:
1. Go to the theme page. http://fbox.vt.edu/M/maberry2/theme.html
2. Enter your name and email.
3. Rank the songs. Ask yourself if each song should be Theme, and then
pick the ranking that most matches the answer you said to yourself. For
instance, if "Sweet Child O' Mine" were on the ballot (Which it isn't
since it was SP98 theme), you would do this:

"Hmm, would 'Sweet Child O' Mine' be a good theme?" you would ask
yourself.
"Yes!" you would reply.
Then you would mark the "Yes!" button next to "Sweet Child O' Mine" on
the ballot.

However, if Madonna's new cover of Don McClain's classic "American Pie"
were on the ballot, this would happen:

"Hmm, would 'American Pie' by Madonna be a good theme?" you would ask
yourself.
"No Way!" you would obviously reply.
Then you would mark the "No Way!" button on the ballot.

"Ok" and "Nope" are also available for less strong feelings, and
"Whatever" for complete indifference.

4. Finally, enter any additional comments, perhaps saying which songs
you like best and worst, and then hit Submit.

Once the list is narrowed down to a reasonable number (I'm thinking 10 -
15), we'll have The Super Prom 2000 Theme Choosing Gala (Gala 2K). Much
like last year's, where I send a tape with all the nominations out to
everyone and they vote and send me the results. Except the tape will
probably be a CD, and hopefully it will get to more people. I don't
know exactly how this will work yet, since the approximately 60 Super
Promers live in around 25 locations world wide. But let's just say that
if you don't vote in this round, you'll reduce your chances of getting
the Gala CD. And if you live in Italy.... well, you probably won't get
it anyway. But we'll work something out. I'll probably post the
ballot so you can vote by Absentee Ballot, but that won't be as fun
since you can't hear the songs.

Oh, here's the breakdown on theme nominating:

Jim wins with 9 nominations.
Brian in second with 8.
Brad in third with 7.

As for funny comments, Dave wins with his lyrics to the Poop song, which
are displayed on the site. Brad comes in second for declaring, "I'm not
wearing any pants!" with his nomination of "99 Bottles of Beer on the
Wall", and Grant comes in a close third for saying, "I will punch you in
the head" with his nomination for "My Bologna"

15 people overall participated in the online nominating process, and I
would like to thank them all. As for the rest of you - Your apathy will
get you nowhere!

That is all.

Dear Chickens,

According to my records, I haven't sent out a Super Prom e-mail in 6
weeks. This is clearly unacceptable. Fortunately, I now have a College
Degree, and have nothing better to do than plan Super Prom. Therefore -
This message has 2 important things to discuss:
1. Super Prom Theme
2. Super Prom Tickets

Theme:
The Super Prom 2000 Theme Choosing Gala (Gala 2K) has begun, and Dave
has made a cool logo. Based on the online voting process, which 27
people participated in, the 86 suggestions have been narrowed down to 14
finalists. I have produced a Gala 2K CD with all of them on it, and am
now making copies. The songs are good, and I'm positive that this years
theme is on the ballot. The ballot and other info can be found on the
gala page. http://fbox.vt.edu/M/maberry2/gala.html

I'm sure you all want a copy of the CD. I'm making 7, since I bought 10
blank CDs and ruined 3 of them. I'll mail some out to those of you far
away, and distribute others when I'm back in MD later this week. If you
really want a copy, let me know. I may need some Super Prom donations
to cover CD / mailing costs.

After you vote (with or without the CD), send me back the ballot. I'll
need them by early June so we can make tickets.

Tickets:
Dave and I are leaving on June 11 for our cross-country adventure.
Therefore, we need to send out the tickets sometime before then. So, I
need to know the address where you all are going to be in early June.
Basically, if you're not going to be where your ticket was sent last
year, then I probably need your address. And if you didn't get a ticket
last year, you should definitely confirm your address with me.

It would be nice if you could just e mail me your addresses. If you
don't, expect additional e-mails and phone calls in the coming weeks.

As always, visit the web site for more information and Super Prom
updates. Super Prom is just 81 days away. Are you ready????????

See you at Super Prom,
Matt

Super Promers,

Well, I haven't started counting down to the second yet, that will
probably start next week. Though I have already declared 2 states of
emergency just in the past weekend, I think I can safely say that things
will be quite ready by the 5th. In fact, this Super Prom is totally
going to rock. A few things I thought I should let you know about:

1. Instead of sleeping the night before I return to work after a 5
week break, I decided to update the web page. Go figure. The
committees page is all up to date in case you're interested in current
planning progress. More importantly - I added a guest list page, so you
can see who's coming. So far 32 people have actually RSVPed, almost
50%. The rest of you should do so soon. You can look at the page to
make sure I have you and your date currectly noted.

2. 70 people were invited to Super Prom, which is a pretty high
number. I'd like to keep the number of people who actually show up
around that number. Of course you're welcome to bring a date, but I do
encourage you to go with someone who was already invited, or at least a
hot girl. As for extra dates or so called "special guests", please ask
first and I'll approve on a case by case basis based on how many people
seem to be coming. I know you all love Super Prom and what to take all
your friends, which of course makes me happy, but Suzie B gets upset
when there's lots of kids drinking in her backyard.

3. There is no third point.

4. King and Queen: There's going to be a ballot, probably pre-made
based on RSVPs, let me know if you want to be on it. Of course this is
futile, since there is no way anyone could possibly beat me and
Melissa. (She's so cute, how could you vote against her?) I guess
there will be some sort of impartial person to count votes, since I know
you're all afraid of a Matt dictartoship. (rightfully so.)

5. That's all for now. More will come next time I feel like it. I'll
send out directions sometime I guess. And some discussion of the rules
and regulations of the Supromlatives so you can practice and mentally
prepare.

6. Note: I only have emails for 55 people, please pass the word on to
the other 15 if you can.

Matt

Are you ready?

Right now everything looks like we are GO for a 4:00 start to Super
Prom. I strongly urge you to get there by 3:30 or 3:45. Being there
for the kick-off is key. Otherwise you miss one of the most exciting
parts. There is no such thing as fashionably late to Super Prom. But
there is fashionably early.

This is going to be a long message. I thought about putting this stuff
on the web and just sending everyone an email to view the page, but I
don't feel like messing with HTML right now, and I felt that you all
needed this information as soon as possible. The major points are:
1. What to bring.
2. How to get here.
3. Rules and Regulations of prizes and etc.

1. What to bring, possibly in order of importance.
a. Your piece of the ticket. (Except Bo, his is here.)
b. Your person.
c. Your date.
d. Your bathing suit. (Actually more important than your person, if
you are a boy.)
e. A towel.
f. $10 - 20, possibly more. See fundraising below.
g. Comfortable, fun clothes. I will be wearing a t-shirt, possibly
tattered, and dirty holey tennis shoes (when I'm not exposing my
disgusting peeling feet), in addition to my bathing suit. It would be
hard for you to dress worse that me, so don't worry about that.
h. A jacket or sweatshirt for the night, in the event that's it's not
ridiculously hot and humid. Which it probably will be.
i. Some sort of rain gear if it is raining. We do have tarps and
gazebos, but you may want personal wetness protection.
j. A tent, if you plan on sleeping. Or someone who isn't going to get
wasted who can take you home.
k. A sleeping bag.
l. A mild appetite. We won't be grilling for a few hours, so don't
come starving.
m. A readiness to drink for hours, stay up all night, and smoke so much
your lungs fail in the morning.
m. Anything else you feel Super Prom will benefit from. Donations of
food, toys, gifts, and sexual favors are appreciated. Who said that?

1.1 What not to bring.
a. A poopy, mopey attitude.
b. Crack, crystal meth, smack, and other narcotics and drugs.
c. Weapons. (Super Prom is all about love, not war. Leave your gat,
knives, and water pistols at home.)
d. Glass.
e. Pets. (Charlie and Annie will eat them.)
f. A desire to get raging drunk and out of control.
g. Any sort of lack of self control that will lead to indoor vomitting.

h. Dog poop. (We have plenty.)

1.2 Fundraising.
Allow me to step onto my podium... Ahem. Ok. This is our 7th Super
Prom. By now it's clear that Super Prom will continue to happen
forever. And, those of you who have been to (or at least been invited
to) 2 or 3 or 6 or 7 of them have probably figured out that you are
going to go to almost all of them. What are you going to do, stop being
friends with me? I won't allow that.
Anyway, since it's clear that we're going to have this party every
year, and everyone's always going to be there, we should start investing
in it. Super Prom is already a huge big deal, but in the future it
could be unbelievably awesone if we actually get some sort of fund
going. Imagine, if instead of Dave and I losing a couple hundred
dollars each year if we actually gained money. Then the next year we
could get some really cool stuff (Those sumo wrestling things always
pop in my head when I think of this).
And, if you really start thinking ahead, imagine what we could do in
10 years or so. Super Prom on a cruise ship, or in Miami, or something
really cool like that. These things could all be possible, if we had
the cash, which we could, especially in a few more years when everyone
is out of school.
The point is, all the money you put into Super Prom you're going to
get back. So keep that in mind when you see the donation cup. And
that's all I have to say about that.

2. Directions. Hopefully you've gotten this far. I'm including
directions from lots of places. Hopefully if you read them all you
should be able to figure it out. If not, consult Map Quest, or ask me
to clarify.

DELETED

3. Contests. These are the contests as I currently see them. Note
that the committee reserves the right to add, subtract, and modify the
rules of any contest or award at any time.

    a. Supromolympics. - Teams of 7 will be needed. You might want
to start forming teams now. 2 teams will go at a time, and we'll have
as many rounds as needed for the number of teams. First person will be
involved in a blind island race down the pool. Second person needs to
chug a beer, than do a drunk driving test thing (walk a straight line,
stand on one foot, say the alphabet backwards.) Then 3 people run the 4
legged race, next person has to do something probably involving crawling
through hoops, and the last person has to spin around a croquet mallot
and then hit a ball through the croquet course. Choose your team
wisely.

    b. Diving - Awarded to best dive based on judges' scoring.
    c. Stomp Rocket - Awarded to farthest propelled stomp rocket
landing inside the fence.
    d. Farthest distance - Awarded to whoever came the farthest to go
to Super Prom from a place they will return to live after Super Prom.
    e. Fat - Awarded to the best fat based on judges decision.
    f. Rookie of the year - Awarded to the best new Super Promer, as
decided by the committee.
    g. Chairman of the year - Awarded to the best committee chairman,
as decided by me.
    h. Chicken Limbo - Awarded to whoever lasts the longest in the
chicken limbo contest.
    i. Kissing - Awarded to the Best Kiss, as decided by my
interpretation of popular opinion.
    j. Most Improved - Awarded to the person most improved since Super
Prom 99, as decided by the committee.
    k. First to Pass Out - Awarded to the first person to pass out.

Umm, that's all. If you know anything about whether Ruth, Glen, Craig
Brophy, Joe, Heather Bredeman, Leah Amorin, or Scott Davidson are
coming, tell me. And as a bonus for reading this whole thing, the first
person who replies with: "Matt is the coolest cat ever!" will receive a
special award.

Priceless.

Well kids, this was by far the best Super Prom ever. My backyard and my
body are well on their way to making a full recovery. This time of year
I always worry about how we can possibly top it next year, but somehow
we always manage.

So, you may have noticed that Super Prom was ridiculously expensive.
$1105.89 when you add it all up. Not to worry, when you add up all the
donations (of course rather large ones by myself, other committee
members and my parents), it comes out to $1255.89, giving the SP '01
fund $150 to start off with! Whoohoo! But, those of you who forgot to
bring cash with you Saturday should still feel obliged to give me lots
of money.

Anyway chickens, I just wanted to thank everyone for a wonderful Super
Prom. I'll let you know when the page is back up, and when SP8 planning

of your SP2K experience, and I'll post it up when the page re-opens.
