Attention Super Prom Enthusiasts: The Super Prom Committee is pleased to announce Super Prom 10, Summer 2003. Let the hype begin... This is your standard November email: planning meeting, web updates, and other updates. 1. The annual Day After Thanksgiving First Super Prom Planning Meeting will be held on Friday, the 29th. We'll be holding the DATFSPPM at Dave & Bill's apartment in XXXXXXXXXXX. The plan is to start gathering at 6:30, grill meat, drink beer, and hopefully get to the planning by 8:00. I'm sure we'll go to one of the fine local bars once the meeting has become unproductive (10:00 I'm guessing, possibly sooner). They have some homebrew but you should bring beer, and meat or money to get meat. Among other things, we will be determining the ticket price for SPX at this meeting, as well as the usual feedback from SP9, suggestions for new fun things, and (hopefully) talking about the location for this year's SP. Those of you in the XXXXXXXXXXXX area, or who visit it every weekend, should be sure to be there. And those of you reasonably close should consider making the trip. If you live far away, don't worry about it. All 90 of us can't fit in their apartment anyway. For directions to Dave and Bill's, call them, XXX XXX-XXXX, or me. If you can't go to the meeting, feel free to email me any SP related thoughts you have. 2. The Super Prom 9 pics are up. Complete with overly descriptive captions. The Super Prom 9 page is almost finished, except for that whole write-up thing - my sleep schedule doesn't give me a whole lot of free time. Note that if you write a SP9 write-up, you will get points. 3. Points! The battle for the SP9 CDs has begun. Everyone's points are now listed on the Superpromers page. You'll see that the new people are all winning with zero points. The rest of you have lost points for violation of the email policy (not throwing me a surprise party). People who wished me happy birthday or gave me presents lost fewer points. And people who emailed the list about non surprise party related missing sunglasses lost more points. Note that people who go to the meeting are in a good position to get points, as I'm known to randomly award them during DATFSPPMs. 4. In other news, we're pursuing making Super Prom some sort of official organization, so that the $1464.61 we have can rest comfortably in its own bank account, instead of intermingling with my money. I've written a draft constitution of such an organization, and it is on the website. It calls for a strong central government, with some oversight by the masses. Let me know if you have any comments, and we'll probably discuss it at the meeting. That's all I have for now. I'll be going up to MD on Friday for break, for those of you who live there. See you at Super Prom, Matt President, Super Prom Committee www.superprom.com
Chicklettes, Now that the football season is over, we're left with feelings of sadness and emptiness. What meaning does life hold for us now? What will we do with ourselves between now and next fall? The answer of course, is plan, prepare for, and attend Super Prom Ten. Two months into the planning season, we have so far decided to have SPX somewhere, sometime this summer. The possible dates are: June 21 and 28, July 5, 12, 19 and 26, and August 2, 9, and 16. When you reply with your SP date preference, play this Super Prom Music Matching Game. Match the song title with the description. Each one is worth 5 points. Hey Everybody, The Super Prom Committee is pleased to announce: Super Prom X, July 26th, 2003. Location to be announced. We're working on that, I promise. So, you now have almost 4 months to prepare for the big day. If, like me, you find that you are pale, overweight, and have a bad haircut, you have plenty of time to work on those things. If, like Jim, you find that you have a job where you have to work on Saturday, you have plenty of time to find a new one. If, like Trevor, you find that you live in Seattle for some reason, you have plenty of time to get a plane ticket back. In other exciting SP news, Theme Selection Time has begun. We are currently in stage one of TST - the Theme Suggestion stage. Visit the website: www.superprom.com and click on Theme Suggestions for a fun web form to send in your nominations. Of course you will get some points for making suggestions. In other web page news, I've added a Message Board to the page. Make yourself a login, and then you can use it to discuss all aspects of Super Prom, or whatever else you feel like talking about. You can discuss, for example: Why Total Eclipse of the Heart should be theme, which Committee member is the hottest, who should be King and Queen, your points ranking, what's happening this weekend, or how you never get any work done because you're always reading the SP message board. Also, by request, there is now a form you can use to update your profile on the Superpromers page. Doing so, of course, will give you points. And if you would like to put a picture on there, or anything else, let me know (see mine for example). Well, that's about it. Hope you're all doing well. See you at Super Prom, Matt www.superprom.com
Chicklettes and Chickens: Welcome to the April Super Prom email. As most of you already know, the April email contains: 1. SP X Location 2. Theme selection, stage 2 3. Call for addresses 4. Other things 1. Super Prom X will be held on July 26, which hopefully your calendar already says. After a lengthy location scouting process, the Committee has decided to have Super Prom at: my parent's house. Yes, we did look at a lot of other options, but they would have been more expensive and less fun. 2. Ninety-one songs have been suggested for Theme, and some of them aren't horrible. We now have to narrow this to a reasonable number to go onto the final ballot, so you need to rank the songs on the webpage: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/maberry2/. The Theme Choosing Gala CD will be coming out in mid-May, so make sure to rank the songs soon. 3. Invitations are going to be sent the beginning of June (just as soon as we figure out what the tickets are going to be, and make them.) In order for you to get invited to SP, I'm going to need your address, so send that to me. 4. As some of you might have noticed, we lost our domain name due to internet ridiculosity. So instead, use: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/maberry2/. Or, if you're on the go and can't remember that, just type "Super Prom" into google. 5. I know the only reason you read these emails is to find out how to get points, so here you go. You'll get points for ranking the Theme Nominees (make sure you put your name on there), and for sending me your address. Plus, here is a 50 point question, with partial credit available: Spell my middle name. Ok, that is all. See you at Super Prom, Matt http://filebox.vt.edu/users/maberry2/
Hey Everyone- If you liked the April Super Prom email, you're going to love May's edition. In this issue: 1. Theme Choosing Gala! 2. You haven't sent me your address yet. 3. Other stupid things. 1. Based on your rankings, the initial 91 songs have been narrowed down to 14 finalists, one of which might actually become theme. I've made about 20 Theme Choosing Gala CDs, and copies will be sent to Boston, Berkeley, and Seattle, plus there's one in Blacksburg. I'll be distributing the rest in the Baltimore-Washington area. If you're not in any of those places, you can still vote on the website: http://filebox.vt.edu/users/maberry2/. If you are in one of those places, then you should listen to the CD, and then vote on the website, or email it to me, or just tell me. We'll probably try to get all the B'more people together this weekend for a Theme Choosing party, though details have not been worked out. You should check the message board for details, and you can also lobby for your favorite there. 2. Tickets are going to be sent out just as soon as we make them, which will probably be three weeks from now, assuming Dave didn't just say "yeah right" when he read that. So, we need you address. If you didn't send it in last time, do it now! Since I move every 6 months I assume that everyone else does too, so even if you think that I think that I know where you live, I actually think that I don't know. 3. Here's your point oppurtunity, in addition to voting, of course, answer this question: What's Super Prom? Since I'm asked this question all the time I thought it would be cool to get everyone's response and put them on the website. Make your answer as short or as long as you like, and I'll give up to 100 points based on creativity, insight, spelling, etc. I'm especially interested how the rookies will respond. 4. For those of you attempting to keep track of me at home, I now live with Matt Morgan in XXXXXXX. I'm working at NRL again this summer, and returning to Blacksburg in August for theoretically my last year of school. I can usually be reached on my cell: XXX XXX-XXXXX. Or email me at maberry2@vt.edu, or IM me at mattybvt. Or find other ways to stalk me. If you feel the urge to reply to all, use the message board instead (you can even put pictures there). See you at Super Prom, Matt http://filebox.vt.edu/users/maberry2/ Why am I still up?
Hey Everbody - Finally, the last email before SPX. I hope everyone's as excited as me, it's going to be awesome. For the final email our good friends Q and A have decided to make an appearance to tell you everything you need to know about SPX. It's all here, the schedule, the prizes, directions, and more. Q) So what's the deal with Super Prom? A) Umm... It's going to be awesome. Perhaps you should ask something more specific. Q) Right. Well, what's going to happen? What's the schedule? A) That's better. Here's the schedule: Friday night (say starting around 9)- Super Prom Eve Bonanza, at the Coliseum. Saturday 10:30 Committee and setup team phone check-in 12:00 Committee and setup team should be at the house, or Matt's head will actually explode. 1:45 Roll Call - you should be there. (last chance for points) 2:00 Kick-off - Fun Begins 2:30 Food, Round 1 - Burgers (cheese and veggie), Hot Dogs, assorted side dishes 3:15-4:00 The SPX Band plays 5:15 4th Annual Supromolympics 6:45 Food, Round 2 - more Burgers and assorted side dishes, plus Buffalo Chicken Pasta, grilled chicken, grilled veggies, and more. 7:45 SPX Awards Ceremony 8:15 Dance Party 10:00 Chicken Limbo 11:00 Music stops, End Fun Q) Awesome. So what's the Theme this year? A) The Theme is Weezer's "Island In The Sun", in case you never looked at the back of your ticket. So there will a plethora of tropical decorations, and you should try to wear a tropical ensemble. Q) So what should I bring? A) Excellent question. The Committe recommends you bring the following items: 1) A bathing suit (preferrably one you look hot in) 2) A towel 3) Additional clothes, including something warmer to wear at night. 4) Sun Screen (though the sun is 93 million miles from Super Prom, it can still get you) 5) Money - if you haven't paid (in full Nat), bring your contribution with you. $25/person or more. More is good. 6) Smokes - The Committee has eliminated smokes from the budget due to cuts. So if you smoke, bring a lot, because you will smoke more at SP then you ever dreamed possible. Also, Matt Berry will be bumming from you. Q) That guy thinks he can do whatever he wants just because he's SP President. So what shouldn't I bring? A) The following items should not be brought to or near SPX: 1) Drugs - Super Prom is a drug free event 2) Drama - Super Prom is a drama free event 3) Pets - We don't need any more poop than we already have 4) Weapons - Super Prom is all about love Q) So what's the deal with awards this year? Can I win one? A) You might be able to win one, there'll be a few more this year. Though unfortunately for you there's no award for asking the most questions. Q) Damn, they always jip me. So what can I win? A) There's awards for Stomp Rocket, Sumo Wrestling, Supromolympics, Dancing, Chicken Limbo and Trampolining, you can try to win those. Q) But I'm completely unskilled, what else can I win? A) There's also Rookie of the Year, Farthest Distance Traveled, Most Improved, Best Dressed, Least Dressed, and Winner. Q) Wait, did you say Least Dressed? A) Yeah, it's an all male Committee. Q) Hmmm. Well good luck with that guys. What's the deal with Winner? A) Matt Berry has been getting drunk and giving out points all year, for no apparent reason under no apparent system. Whoever has the most points wins, and gets the Super Prom Nine Soundtrack, a 6 CD set. Q) And what's the deal with Supromolympics this year? A) There will teams of six. Round One is a relay race: 1. First person races down the pool blindfolded on one of the Islands. 2. Second person must Double Dutch long enough to say some to-be-determined Super Prom Double Dutch Rhyme (SPDDR). 3. Next three people are in a Wheelbarrow Chicken Race. One person stands, holding another persons legs who's hands are on the ground, with the third person on the first person's shoulders. 4. Sixth person must spin around 10 times, and then carry an egg on a spoon for ~50 feet. 5. When the sixth person crosses the line the entire team of 6 must then form a human pyramid. Two teams go at a time in the first round, and the first team to finish the pyramid goes to the second round. Round Two will be something completely different, and you're going to love it. Q) Oh will I? A) Yes. Q) Fine. What about King and Queen? A) Which ever couple gets the most votes wins. Voting happens sometime during the second round of eating. The Reinging K&Q, Grant and Kasey, will count the votes and announce the winners at the Awards Ceremony. The winners get 2 fabulous prizes: 1) Crowns made by Grant and Kasey. 2) Paper Bags labeled K and Q with eyeholes punched out which they must wear while diving in the pool. With their clothes on. Q) Am I expected to believe that Grant had anything to do with making crowns? A) No, I was kidding. Kasey's mom made them. Kasey helped. Grant doesn't know what they are. Q) I feel like I've been typing for a long time. Is this email almost over? A) I'm not sure. You're the one asking all the questions. Plus I'm the one doing most of the typing. Q) Oh yeah. Well, what else do I need to know? What dangers should I avoid? A) The biggest danger at Super Prom is dog poop. Matt will pick up all the poop around noon, but Annie and Charlie will continue to poop throughout the day. Q) And what about injury? A) If you participate in Sumo Wrestling, make sure you wear a helmet, to avoid concussion. There's always a chance of injury during Supromolympics, which is what makes it so fun to watch. So be careful. If you get too drunk and fall in the pool you might drown, but you're not supposed to be getting that drunk. Q) What common mistakes should I avoid? A) First off, make sure you take all your stuff with you when you leave, and make sure you aren't taking any Super Prom property. Q) What less common mistakes should I avoid? A) You should also avoid going onto the neighbor's lawn and having sex. And puking all over the bathroom is frowned upon as well. Q) Can I have sex in the bathroom and puke on the neighbor's lawn instead? A) That would be better, but still probably not a good idea. Q) So what's with the neighbors, I heard the house is completely surrounded by them. A) Yes, there are now 4 sets of neighbors surrounding Super Prom. So in addition to not having sex on their lawns, we'll have to keep the noise at a reasonable level. And since there are people living right behind the shed, peeing back there won't work. Q) That's going to make the bathroom line way too long. I'll have to pee in the pool instead. A) First of all, you're disgusting. Second of all, that wasn't a question. Third of all, no you won't, because there will be luxurious Port 'O Pottie at SPX, complete with a flushable toilet and a sink. Q) So that's why tickets were so much this year. A) You're still not asking questions. Q) Yeah, I've gotten kind of bored. A) Let's skip to the end. Q) Wait, how do I get there? A) Oh yeah, you'll need directions. DELETED Q) Well, that was certainly overkill. Am I going to get any points out of this email? A) Of course. Answer these questions, worth 25 points each. 1. What's the speed of light, in units of light years per year? 2. How many people control Super Prom? 3. What does Trois mean, in French? 4. How many people are on the Committee? 5. How many sides does a pentagram have? 6. Which season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was best? 7. How many layers should a dip have, ideally? 8. What number is enough? 9. How many planets are in the solar system? 10. What are you doing on Saturday? You can also get bonus points by suggesting a good SPDDR. Q) Anything else I need to know? A) Just check the webpage for developments. And feel free to put up excited messages on the Message Board. That's all folks. Hopefully I'll see most of you Friday night, as for the rest of you - See you at Super Prom, Matt, Q, and A. www.superprom.com
