Pix are up, and you should come to CBW 10
Due to the overwhelming Success of one decade's worth of Super Proms, the Super Prom Committee, having sought the advice of its Special Advisor, has unanimously Agreed to hold Super Prom Eleven, in the Summer of the Year 2004. Moreover, the Committee has Invited you thereunto, because you are Cool. In preparation thereof, a Planning Meeting has been scheduled for Saturday (not Friday), the 29th Day of November, beginning at 7:00 PM at the residence of William F. Beschorner in the XXXXXXXXX. The Committee requests your Presence at this Meeting, and asks you to bring Beer. Pictures of Super Prom Ten can be viewed on the World Wide Web at the address www.superprom.com, which you should visit forthwith. Signed on this the 23rd Day of Novemeber, by the President of the Super Prom Committee, who will See you at Super Prom, Matt Berry Call me for directions to Bill's, or call him, XXX XXX-XXXX For 50 points, answer this question: What was the punchline of the joke at the end of the pilot episode of Fox Force Five?
Everyone, As I was walking across campus yesterday in the ridiculous cold, and my face slowly started to freeze off, I began to think of warmer times, of sunshine, friends, swimming, cheeseburgers, gazebos, and chickens. And then I panicked, because with one day left I still haven't sent out the January email. So here it is, the Jan SP email, in which we all ponder the most important question of the year: When should Super Prom be? The following Saturdays are candidates for Super Prom: June 26, July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, and August 7, 14, 21, 28. That gives us 10 dates to choose from. So let me know if you are getting married, going to someone else's wedding, having a baby, going on vacation, going to Mars, attending a family get-together, taking the bar exam, washing your hair, or otherwise unavailable for Super Proming on any of those dates. Or let me know that you don't care. Personally I'm leaning toward an August SP this year, but it's not like I'm in charge or anything. Once we hear everyone's preferences the Committee will make a decision (per our bylaws), and let you know in the February email, which lately has been coming out in March or April. I'll try to stick to the schedule this year, since I know all of you are dying to find out when the best day of the year will be. In addition to getting points for sending in your date preference, or non-preference, you can get bonus points for answering this question, as I promote my choice for theme: What's cooler than being cool? That's all for now kids. See you at Super Prom. -Matt www.superprom.com
Chickens, The Super Prom Committee is pleased to invite you to Super Prom 11, on August 7th at the Berry Complex. There will be cheeseburgers, Buffalo Chicken Pasta, swimming, Chicken Limbo, Supromolympics, and other fun things. With this notice you have 159 days to prepare. So request off work, get your plane tickets, and cancel any other plans you thought you had. You'll also need to physically and mentally prepare yourself for the event. You'll want to be at your maximum hotness, so it's time to renew your New Year's vow and start hitting the gym. I recommend a lot of running and crunches. You also need to be prepared for a lot of eating and drinking, so start practicing. Note that this may interfere with the other goal. Now that the date has been chosen, we move on to our next task - Theme Selection. Suggestions can be made on the website. The list of songs suggested at the November meeting is also up there. This year I'm putting up the name of the person who suggests each song, so that you know who to make fun of. So far there is only 1 good suggestion (Total Eclipse of the Heart), so make sure to get your suggestions in. Suggestions will be taken until sometime in April. Oh, you will get points for suggesting songs. But not for suggesting really bad songs. And not for suggesting way too many songs. Ok, that's all. Hope you're all having more fun than I am. I'm sure you are, since after 4 beautiful years of non-stop procrastinating, I now have 1 month to write a dissertation. See you at Super Prom, Matt www.superprom.com
Chickens, Welcome to the April SP email. Before we go any further, hit reply, type in your address (wherever you'll be in June), and hit send. Also let me know what your name will be in June if there is an impending change. Now that you've gotten 500 points for sending me your address, you can get even more points by ranking the suggestions for theme. There are 90 suggestions listed, and at least 3 of them might actually be good themes. The top songs will go on to the next round next month, the Super Prom 2004 Theme Choosing Gala! Though there are a lot of songs on the list, try not to think at all as you go through them and it should go pretty fast. Just mark the ones I suggested highest, and the ones Dave suggested lowest. If you haven't already marked your calendar, remember that Super Prom is on August 7th. You should put this date on your wall calendar, in your planner, in your outlook calendar, and probably tattoo it on your forehead (remember to write it backwards!). There are still 16 and a half weeks to get ready, so you still have plenty of time to hone your chicken limbo skills. Due to a recent infraction, I'd like to remind everyone of the SP email policy. 1) You should not send out messages to the entire list unless you are planning me a surprise party. 2) You should probably be planning me a surprise party. If you still haven't sent me your address, I'll give you 250 points if you do so now. That's all I've got... See you at Super Prom, Matt I'm defending my dissertation on Friday. I'll be celebrating Friday night so call me and I'll give you points. www.superprom.com
Superpromers, I'm pleased to announce that the Super Prom 2004 Theme Choosing Gala has begun! Based on your rankings of the candidate themes, we have narrowed the list down to 14 excellent choices. This is possibly the best Theme Ballot in the history of Super Prom, because Total Eclipse of the Heart finally made it on! I have made copies of a Gala CD containing the songs on the ballot, as well as six exciting Bonus Tracks. I'll be distributing these copies this weekend and next week. In the meantime you can see the list of songs at www.superprom.com. When you see the list of songs you may feel inclined to vote right away. However, I urge you to wait until you have heard the CD. Also, you should discuss and collaborate with your friends. With 14 songs on the ballot it doesn't take many votes to win, so voting as a block will increase your chances. The Committee has long used this technique to control the Theme, but to make things more exciting I invite you to do the same. When you do decide on your choice, you can vote on the webpage, or by email, regular mail, phone, text message, bike messenger, in person, or you can even take a picture of your vote and send it my camera phone. Sorry I don't have a fax machine. In other news, some of you haven't sent me your address yet. You should do that now. The invitations are going to go out in mid-June, once the Theme has been chosen and we figure out what the invitations are going to be, and make them. Ok, now for the real reason this email is going out tonight: See you at Super Prom, Dr. Matthew Berry President Super Prom Committee (I'm finally qualified to be SP president) www.superprom.com
Superpromers: With just 4 days to go there's much to discuss, and much to panic about. Let me start with what you should do immediately. To reduce my panic level, you should confirm your SP11 status. Check the Guest List page on www.superprom.com, and let me know if I'm missing anything. Specifically, let me know if you are bringing a guest that I don't know about. Also, if you haven't sent your money in yet, you have two options: a) put your check in the mail right now, and I should get it Friday, or, b) write a check out to the Super Prom Association right now, and keep it with you at all times so you can give it to me the next time you see me, also hopefully by Friday. I'm really hoping to avoid having to worry about money on Saturday. If you haven't paid by Roll Call I'm referring your account to the Supromfficer, who is authorized to throw you in the pool. Since you people seem to have trouble with this -- List of things to take with you when you leave: 1. Yourself. 2. Your date. 3. Your bathing suit. 4. Your towel. 5. Your extra clothes. SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11 Dangers: You are hereby warned of the following hazards present at Super Prom: 1. Dog poop. The yard will be cleaned prior to SP11, but I can't completely guarantee my work. Also, Annie and Charlie will continue to poop during Super Prom. 2. Supromolympics. Supromolympics, like any sport, poses a risk of injury. 3. Alcohol. Warning: alcohol is present at Super Prom. Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant that can affect your judgment and reflexes. Overuse of alcohol will give you a hangover, and cause you to do silly and stupid things you are likely to regret. You are urged to use alcohol wisely at Super Prom, and are forbidden from driving home drunk. 4. Incoming missiles: stomp rockets will be raining down on Super Prom throughout the day. A first aid kit will be available for attending to minor wounds and headaches. SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11 Supromolympics: You will need to form teams of 6 for the S'lympics this year. It's a good idea to have a team in mind before you come, so you don't have to worry about it during SP. In the first round: Person 1: Blind Island Race down the length of the pool. Person 2: Pie eating challenge. Persons 3-5: 3-legged wheelbarrow race. 2 people tied to together holding the legs of the 3rd person who is in wheelbarrow position. Person 6: Spin around 10 times and then do something. The something involves this year's surprise item. As always, we won't reveal what the subsequent rounds are until they are about to start. This mostly has to do with the fact that we haven't decided on them yet. Also as always, the Committee reserves the right to make changes as needed at any time, and promises not to referee the Supromolympics fairly. SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11SP11 Awards: Here is a list of awards and their rules: King and Queen: Eligible to any couple listed in the SP notebook as going together by Roll Call.
