SP Hog Day
Super Prom 12. July 16th. Be There.
SP12 Theme.
Eight weeks to go!
Super Prom 12, time to start panicking
3.5 days.
Chickens, Well the leaves have fallen, daylight saving time has passed, the turkeys of the world are about to experience a mass slaughter, and I'm sending a Super Prom email. Yes, once again November has happened, which means once again it's time for the annual Super Prom Planning meeting. The Super Prom Twelve planning meeting will be held on the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 26. The meeting will be at Jim and Beth's apartment (formerly Beth and Jen's apt.), in the Century Apartments of XXXXXXXXXXXX. Jim and Beth live at XXXXX XXXXXXXXX XXXXXX, XXX X, XXXXXXXXXXXX, XX XXXXX. Or in layman's terms, "next door to Jay and Katya." Their apartment's phone number is XXX XXX-XXXX. We'll start to gather for food and drinking around 7:00, with the meeting starting after we've sufficiently satisfied our hunger. We'll take care of the food; you should bring beer. At the meeting we will discuss the budget for SP12, and vote on the ticket price. We will also discuss the current financial and membership status of the Super Prom Association, discuss the pros and cons of SP11, and take suggestions for next year, including Theme suggestions. The meeting will be immediately followed by drinking until dawn. Those of you who don't normally attend the meeting, or who are new, should seriously consider coming, as it is fun, informative, and your best opportunity to give the Committee feedback. Those of you who do normally attend the meeting should seriously consider continuing to do so, for the same reasons. If you can't come, then feel free to send me any SP-related thoughts that you might have. If you are coming, then let me know for food-planning purposes, or just show up and risk it. That's all for now. See you at Super Prom, Matt www.superprom.com
Groundhog-heads, Well, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today, which means there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Unfortunately, the prophetic marmot can't answer the question I know you all have on your minds, "How many weeks until Super Prom?". To answer that question, we first need to pick a date for Super Prom. We can then figure out how many weeks away it is through a mathematical technique known as "counting". The following dates are available for Super Proming: 6/25, 7/2, 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, 7/30, 8/6, 8/13, 8/20 and 8/27. We pick the date through process of elimination, so let me know what dates you can't make it, and why. "I'm marrying Bill on August 6th" would be an example of a helpful response. "I think I like July 2nd the best" would be an example of a not-very-helpful response. Of course, the most helpful response is "Whenever is fine with me". So take a look through your calendar and let me know if you are getting married, giving birth, going to someone else's wedding, going to someone else's birth, going on vacation, unable to get off work, or otherwise unavailable on any of those days. If, like all the girls I ask out, you are too busy washing your hair every day to go out, you can let me know that too but there's not much I can do for you. Once I get all the responses we'll pick the date by weighing seniority and the validity of your excuses, and then finally giving up and rolling a 10-sided die. The date will be announced in the February email. Note that this is the January email. See you at Super Prom (If I ever stop reliving this day!), Matt www.superprom.com
Chickens, The Super Prom Committee requests the honour of your presence at Super Prom Twelve, on Saturday, the sixteenth day of July, at two o'clock PM eastern daylight saving time, to be held in the backyard of Mike and Suzie B in XXXXXXXX. Beer and Buffalo Chicken Pasta will be served. So this gives you roughly (why does "gh" make an "f" sound???) 4 months to prepare for the best day of the year. Are you ready to eat 2 cheeseburgers, a chicken-on-a-stick, 3 hot dogs, 2 heaping plates of BCP, and various snack items during a 9 hour span that also includes drinking beer, competing in Supromolympics, shooting Stomp Rockets, getting hit by Stomp Rockets, vying for the best seat in the Gazebo, trying to limbo under a chicken, contemplating why we bother setting up a Slip N Slide, laying on Fun Island in the pool, and getting your groove on in a dance party? Probably not, so we all need to start our SP spring training program. Those of you familiar with the annual cycle of SP emails know that this, the "February email" (which has not been sent in February since 2001), also marks the beginning of Theme selection season. We are currently taking suggestions for Theme, so get to the website and start suggesting songs! Whenever the March email comes out (hopefully before May), we'll move to the next phase where everyone gets to rank all of the suggestions. Then Dave and I will pick our favorites to go onto the final ballot, I mean, the ones that everyone ranks the highest will go onto the final ballot, and the Theme Choosing Gala will begin. By the way, I'm leaving the country for 2 weeks to visit my brother in Guam, so don't expect your suggestions to get posted very quickly. You will of course get points for suggesting songs, and more points if your song makes the ballot, and 1000 points if your suggestion becomes theme. That is all. See you at Super Prom, Matt www.superprom.com
Chickens, July 16th is now less than 12 weeks away, and Super Prom planning is getting into full force. As of today, when I realized that Super Prom was less than 12 weeks away and started panicking. "What can I do to help?" you ask. "Rank the theme suggestions!" is the answer. There are 110 songs suggested for theme, and we need to narrow that down to a more reasonable number before we have the final vote. While ranking 110 songs may seem like a daunting task, most of the suggestions are terrible so it doesn't take that long to go through the list. So pretty please, with sugar on top, go to the website and rank the songs. Thank you. The other thing we need is your address. Sometime at the end of May (in other words, June) we're going to be sending out the invitations to SP12, so I need to update the official Super Prom Address Database. If you don't live at the same place that your invite was mailed to last year, send me an update. Thank you again. So that's all, just rank the themes and send me your address. Of course you'll get points for doing both. Also, remember that we have a message board. I've started a Theme thread so we can all talk about which songs we want to win. See you at Super Prom, Matt www.superprom.com
Dearest Superpromers, Eight weeks from today, you will be at Super Prom 12. Yai! Then again, that means there's only 8 weeks left to prepare for SP, and there's much to do. Most importantly, we need to choose a Theme. The 110 songs that were originally suggested for Theme have been narrowed down to a more manageable 14, by the 36 of you who bothered ranking them. Shame, shame, the rest of you. So, I will be making a CD this afternoon with all the choices, and some fine bonus tracks, and distributing that in the next few days. Meanwhile, you can see the choices on the Theme Choosing Gala page of our website. You can also make your vote there once you have a reached a decision. I urge you to carefully consider your vote over the next 2 weeks. The Super Prom Theme is one of the most important aspects of Super Prom. After all, it's the one song you are most likely not to listen to, because so much other stuff is going on when it is played. So, listen to the CD if you can get your hands on a copy, and talk over the decision with your friends. Also check out the SP Message Board to see what everyone is saying about the theme. Last year's winner had 10 votes, with the next runner up having 8. So I recommend reaching a consesus with others and voting as a block for a greater chance of victory. For an even greater chance of victory, vote for the same song I do (haven't completely decided yet, btw). We're trying to get the invitations out in the beginning of June, so please get your vote in the next 2 weeks. Also, if you haven't sent me your address yet, do it now! See you at Super Prom (7/16), Matt www.superprom.com
Hey Everyone, With Super Prom 9 days away, and only 38 confirmed attendees (25 of whom have paid), I'm hitting the panic button. So if you're coming, let me know, and put your check in the mail. If you're not coming, let me know. If you don't know what you're doing, let me know. I'm planning to order the beer this weekend, so I'd like a fairly accurate count by then. Also, I really don't like worrying about who still needs to pay on the day of Super Prom, so please try to pay in advance. We have gone over budget (no surprise there), and attendance looks low right now, so feel free to recruit your friends and family into the world of SP. Anyone who has $35 and doesn't hate me is welcome. Just let me know if you're planning to invite extra people so I can plan and panic or not panic accordingly. Also keep in mind that all money you donate to SP over the $35 gives you extra points! Plus you get points for new recruits. (And with that, we've officially become a cult.) You can see the current guest list situation at www.superprom.com. Thanks, see you next Saturday. The final pre-SP email with directions, etc. will go out sometime next week. -Matt

So please let me know if you are coming, how many guests you're bringing, etc, by Thursday night. Make sure the guestlist at www.superprom.com reflects your status. If you haven't paid by now, you should do so the next time you see me, hopefully by Friday. If you haven't paid by the time Super Prom starts, the Supromfficer is authorized to throw you in the pool. We're doing a pirate theme this year. So grab your eye patch, peg leg, and parrot and be prepared to say "Arr Matey" a lot. Of course, it's Super Prom, so you are allowed to and encouraged to wear whatever you want. If you want to dress up in the typical tropical style, that's cool too. Also, there will probably be extra t-shirts, so you can get those for $10 each. 8. Smokes, if you smoke. Bring a lot, you will smoke more during Super Prom than any other day of the year, plus I'll be smoking your cigarettes. Since you people seem to have trouble with this -- List of things to take with you when you leave: 1. Yourself. 2. Your date. 3. Your bathing suit. 4. Your towel. 5. Your extra clothes. Especially your sandals and sunglasses. 6. Your commemorative t-shirt. 7. Your certificates and prizes. 8. Whatever else you take to Super Prom. And since this has also been a problem -- List of things not to take with you when you leave: 1. My date. 2. Super Prom Hula Hoops. 3. Other Super Prom owned equipment. 4. Other people's stuff. 5. My family's towels. And finally, to round out the list of lists -- List of things not to take to Super Prom: 1. Drugs. Super Prom is a drug-free event, drugs should not be brought to or near Super Prom. 2. Drama. Super Prom is a drama-free event, leave your situations at the door. 3. Weapons. 4. Pets. Two dogs is all Super Prom can handle. SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12 Dangers: There was a Disclaimer in your invitation, but here's a reminder: 1. Dog poop. The yard will be cleaned prior to SP12, but I can't completely guarantee my work. Also, Annie and Rocky will continue to poop during Super Prom. 2. Supromolympics. Supromolympics, like any sport, poses a risk of injury. 3. Alcohol. Warning: alcohol is present at Super Prom. Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant that can affect your judgment and reflexes. Overuse of alcohol will give you a hangover, and cause you to do silly and stupid things you are likely to regret. You are urged to use alcohol wisely at Super Prom, and are forbidden from driving home drunk. 4. Incoming missiles: Stomp Rockets will be raining down on Super Prom throughout the day. 5. Trampoline: Someone gets hurt every year on the trampoline. Don't be that person. SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12 Supromolympics: You will need to form teams of 6 for the S'lympics this year. It's a good idea to have a team in mind before you come, so you don't have to worry about it during SP. Person 1: Blind Island Race down the length of the pool. Persons 2-5: 3-legged wheelbarrow race. 2 people tied to together holding the legs of the 3rd person who is in wheelbarrow position. Person 5: Spin around 10 times and go through the crouquet course. Person 6: Race through the 60' inflatable obstacle course. We will be timing the race, and the team with the fastest time wins. There will not be a second round, as the second round has always been long and arduous. As always, the Committee reserves the right to make changes as needed at any time, and promises not to referee the Supromolympics fairly. SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12SP12 Awards: Here is a list of awards and their rules: King and Queen: Eligible to any couple listed in the SP notebook as going together by Roll Call. Voted upon by anonymous ballot administered and counted by the reigning King and Queen, Dave and Kristen. Prize is one set of crowns made by Dave and Kristen, and one set of paper bag crowns to be worn while diving in the pool. Winner: To the person with the most points. Prize is the SP11 soundtrack. Kristen gets to give her points away on Saturday. Rookie of the Year: Chosen by the Committee, with input welcomed from other non-rookies. Note that I am terrible at picking Rookies of the Year, so I will be recusing myself from the selection. Open to any person who has never been to Super Prom before. Must be present at Roll Call to be eligible. Not normally awarded to someone who was invited to a previous Super Prom. Stomp Rocket: To the person who launches a Stomp Rocket the farthest with it landing inside the boundaries of the yard. You must notify a Committee member following your attempt for a judgment.
