Subject: SP9, planning, webpage, and you lost points
Date: Sat, 17 Nov 2001 14:57:37 -0500

Attention Supromniacs,

1. Due to the overwhelming success of Super Prom, Super Prom 95, SP 96, SP 97, SP V, SP99, SP2K, and SP8, the Super Prom Committee has unanimously agreed to hold the ninth annual Super Prom. Moreover, the Super Prom Committee has decided to put you on the Guest List! Date, time, place, official name, theme, logo, and ticket price to be announced.

2. More pertinent to your immediate future however, is that you are also invited to the First Super Prom 2002 Planning Meeting, scheduled for Friday the 23rd, the day after Thanksgiving. The plan is to have it at Kristen's house (which is in Timonium), starting at 7:00, and it will include grilling (BYOB). We should be finished by 10, and will then head to Padonia Station (now that finally everyone is 21). For directions to Kristen's call her.

Since there are going to be some major changes to Super Prom this year, this planning meeting is especially important. So I encourage you all to come. If you'll be in Maryland for Thanksgiving, then you have no excuse not to come. And if you're in NOVA or otherwise nearby, then you should make the trip. Planning meetings are lots of fun, you get to see everyone, talk about Super Prom, make your suggestions and complaints and such, all while drinking beer. Plus the grilling of cheeseburgers and the subsequent trip to Padonia Station should be incentive, so why don't you just come visit for the weekend. (In case you didn't notice, that was directed to Matt Morgan, Taylor, Kristi and Heather).

If you can't make it then of course send me any thoughts about Super Prom you have.

3. www.superprom.com - has been updated. The pictures from SP 2001 are up on the photos page, with my captions. As a special bonus, at least 2 of the captions are actually funny. The SP 2001 page is also up, with my write-up actually complete. It's real long, but should be entertaining, so read that if you get bored at work. All of the emails about SP 8 are also up there. They have been edited though, in a way I'm sure will disappoint you all. I guess when I put this email up next year I'll have to edit it as well.

4. Finally, your failure to throw me a surprise party has not gone unnoticed! Not only did you not throw me a party, but many of you who said you would come down for my birthday didn't, in essence giving me a surprise non-party. You have all lost 10 points.

-Matt Berry
President,
Super Prom Committee

PS. For those of you who have been closely following the Missing Hula Hoop Saga, it has been resolved. The Hula Hoop was found in Heather Chua's trunk, though she claims to have no recollection of how it got there. I'm willing to grant amnesty as long as the Hoop is returned by SP9.

Subject: I need a date.
Date: Sat, 09 Feb 2002 17:43:21 -0500

Hey all,

So, once again, another year has begun. With any new year, the first thing to think about is: when is Super Prom going to be? We've decided to have Super Prom in July, since June and August have both been devoted to matrimony. Damn we're old.

So we have 4 possible Super Prom days: July 6th, 13th, 20th, or 27th. Let me know if you have plans during any of those days. I personally don't have a preference. Or let me know that you don't care when it is. Responding either way will gain you points - which everyone needs (even I am at -10).

In other Super Prom news:
If you haven't heard yet, Super Prom has been moved. We're having it at Mike Elbert's house. Mike is really cool, and his backyard is awesome. He has a pool of course, with a slide. And his backyard is quite large and perfect for Super Prom. If you saw the large monstrosity of a house being built directly behind my parent's backyard, you would understand the reason for the move. Also, I want to invite a lot more people - which Suzy B would not approve of it continued to be at her house. Rest assured that my parents will still attend, otherwise who would cook?

Also, be aware that we will be asking for about $30 this year for Super Prom tickets. Don't worry though, the tickets themselves will almost be worth that much. Hmmm... I wonder what the tickets will be......

Oh, and in web page news (www.superprom.com): I've added a SuperPromers page. It's a list of all of you, and at the moment, it's just a link to the surveys you all filled out for SP8. My Master Plan is for it to have your Super Prom bio - a description of how you got involved in Super Prom and your Super Prom accomplishments, and links to your SP pics. But my Master Plan also involves me passing all my classes, writing a dissertation, and finding a girl to have sex with me. So the web page could be a while. But let me know if anything on your page is out of date, or if you want to add anything, and I'll put it up. It is your page. Address is: www.superprom.com

That's all the SP news for now, once you all reply to this I'll pick a date, and then we'll start the next phase, Theme Choosing!

President, Super Prom Committee

Date: Wed, 08 May 2002 03:49:15 -0400

Hey all,

There's much to discuss, so this message is long. Here's the outline:
1. Date (7/13) & Place
2. Call for addresses
3. Theme
4. Random drivel

1. We're going with July 13th, which seems the best for everyone. This gives you 2 months to arrange your travel plans and mentally prepare. That should be enough time, but I'm not sure if I'll meet my goal of weighing 175 lbs. Note that this date is also Kristi's Birthday, so you may want to bring a gift.

Those of you in the loop may have heard that the new place we found for Super Prom got canceled on us. Those of you out of the loop probably don't remember that it was ever going to be anywhere other than my parent's house. Either way, you're all in the loop now, because it will be at my parent's house. We're going to start at 2:00, which is earlier than usual, but we want to start early to appease my parent's request that it end at some reasonable time, or at least stop being noisy.

2. Send me your address. Do it now. Invitations will hopefully go out by the end of the month, so let me know where you'll be then. I have lots of addresses for people at the moment, but I'm going to consider them all unconfirmed until I hear from you. No address = no invitation = sadness. Actually, no address = me spending weeks chasing you down = frustrated Matt.

3. You'll notice that it is May. Those of you keeping track at home also know that this email usually comes in February or March, and then we start taking theme suggestions. And you also know that we announce the theme in the invitation letter, which I mentioned we want to send at the end of this month. Which leaves us with 3 weeks to pick the theme.

Unfortunately, my solution of picking the theme myself was vetoed by Dave. When I get my own Super Prom.... Anyway, we are going to have a voting process again, but it will be accelerated. So, send me theme suggestions, and do it quickly. No time for an online form, so send me email. The committee, in our infinite wisdom, will pick the best suggestions and put them on a ballot CD. Then there will be voting, and the theme will be chosen.

4. Random stuff:

I'm leaving Blacksburg for the summer this Saturday, and when I return I will not have the same address or phone number that I do now. You can reach always reach me on my cell phone. And of course email, and even IM. I'm living with my brother and sister-in-law and once again working at NRL for the summer.

I have a niece! Her name is Katherine Suzanne Meyer. She is adorable of course, just like her uncle. She's going to be tough to beat in the Rookie-of-the-Year contest. I'd recommend to her competitors to exploit her weaknesses by highlighting your ability to walk and talk.

I have nothing else to say,

except,

You are a chicken.

See you at Super Prom,

Hey y'all,

Remember, Super Prom is July 13th at 2:00. Hopefully you've made arrangements. The invites will go out on June 1st. This is the last email till then, here's an outline:
1. Theme
2. Call for addresses, take 2
3. Golf

1. Theme Choosing Gala has begun! So far my favorite is winning, since no one else has voted yet. (Maybe I shouldn't tell you guys how to vote...) To vote for your favorite go to the webpage, www.superprom.com and click on the Gala link. There's no time to mail a CD out to everyone, but you should know most of the songs (if you don't know it, vote against it!). The theme will be selected on June 1st, so vote soon.

On the gala page, you rank all the songs and vote for your favorite. The reason for ranking is that with 15 songs on the ballot, the majority of the people could hate the song that gets the most votes. Contrast this to our presidential elections (where everyone hates both candidates and the person with the most votes loses.) Perhaps next year I'll institute an electoral college system for theme selection....

2. Send me your address, send me your address, send me your address (imagine me saying this in a sing-song voice while doing a little jig). I still need about 30 people's addresses. Those of you who already sent your address each got 5 points. This year I'm actually going to give the person with the most points a prize - in fact a really good prize. Note that you will also get points for voting for theme.

3. Those of you who golf: There will be an SP golf tournament this year, on Super Prom morning while I'm picking up poop. The winner will get an award at the Awards Ceremony, but you have to get to Super Prom on time! Grant is in charge of this - he's planning an 8:00 tee-time at Wakefield Valley in Westminster. Contact Grant to sign up.

That's all, send your address, vote for theme.

Subject: SP t-shirts and such
Date: Wed, 26 Jun 2002 21:56:47 -0400

Hey all –

We're putting the t-shirt order in tomorrow, so that they are ready on time. So far we haven't gotten all of your RSVPs, so if you haven't sent it yet, or if you just sent in recently, send us an email and let us know if you want a shirt and the size. Of course we're sure that you all want t-shirts - since they are going to be awesome. But we'll have to guess your sizes if we don't hear from you, plus we're not sure if your dates want shirts.

Note that we still also need checks from most of you. For your $30 donation, you get an awesome t-shirt, lunch, dinner, beer, and Super Prom fun. Last year's cost about $1350, and this year we're also making the shirts, plus we want Super Prom to be a lot more fun this year. So we're going to need a lot of money. Note that we will send the complete budget out after SP, but of course now it is top secret. The more money we get, the more fun SPX is going to be next summer!

Also, fun things on the internet - www.superprom.com. The guest list is on the web page, so you can look at it and be aghast at the number of people who haven't replied yet. Seriously, could we have made it easier? Also, there is a link to everyone's survey from last year, for you to peruse. If you notice that yours is out of date, send me updates. And if you don't have one I'll make one if you tell me what to say. This is sort of like your own personal page on the SP site, so you can do whatever you like with it. You can even write your own and send me the html.

Also on the page (well, not yet, but soon), you'll find a list of the awards and contests we're having. Of special note is the Chief's Choice Award, which Chief of Operations Dave Carpenter will give away. The award goes to the best outfit. Since this is Super Prom, you can wear anything you want, but we really want to emphasize that point this year. You can wear fun Hawaiian clothes like last year, get all fancy - because it is a Prom, dress 80's style because of the 80s theme song, go as your favorite muppet, wear a chicken suit, or just wear a bikini that you look hot in (girls only). So start planning your outfits.

Well, we'll see you all in 2 weeks. Thanks for your donations, and get those t-shirt sizes in! And as a bonus, here's a chance for extra points: Reply with your t-shirt info, and summarize your feelings for Matt Berry in 12 words or less. All responses will get 20 points, and the best responses will get more! Note that you also get a point for every dollar you donate. Winner will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony, and will probably get the best prize next to the crowns.

SY@SP,
Dave and Matt

Chickens,

The theme of this year's Super Prom is fun. So if you're wondering what to wear, wear fun clothes. The best outfit gets an award, as described below. And I would like to say that this is going to be a lot more fun than last year, possibly even more fun than SP5. I know that we always say this will be the best Super Prom ever, but this year we've really tried to blow the other ones away. We have several surprises in store, some that Greg and Jim don't even know about.

So here's everything you need to know:
Schedule
What to Bring
Banned Items
Random Notes
Awards
Directions

This email is long, but there is a lot of information here that you don't know, and need to know.

SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9

Schedule:

Friday, 10:30 PM. Pre-Super Prom Toast, Padonia Station.

Saturday
10:30ish: Set-up crew should call the house to check-in.
12:00ish: Set-up crew should be setting up.

1:45: Roll Call. This is your last chance to get points.

2:00: Kick-off. Fun begins.
2:30: food, round 1. Burgers, dogs.
3:15-3:45: Band plays.
5:00: Supromolympics
6:30: food, round 2. Burgers, dogs, Buffalo Chicken Pasta, Chicken-on-a-stick, various mayonnaise-based salads.
Voting for King and Queen
7:10 Theme Countdown -- ending with dancing to Eternal Flame
7:25 Intermission

7:30 Awards Ceremony
8:00 Crowning, listen to Theme while paper-bagged K&Q dive in pool.

11:00: Turn off music, end Fun.

The goal is for my mom to be able to go to sleep around 11:00. I suspect that most of us will be tired by then after 9 hours of Superproming. But if you are not tired and wish to make a raucous, you must make your raucous elsewhere.

SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9

What to Bring:
1. Your person
2. Bathing Suit
3. Towel
4. Other clothes, including warmer clothes for nighttime.
5. Crazy fun clothes (see Chief's Choice Award, below)
6. Sun screen (super prom is officially against sunburn)
7. Cash, or check.

Note: If you have already paid, then you should still bring $5 for the raffle. We're starting a raffle this year for SP 15, which will be in some exotic location. I'm thinking maybe charter a plane to the Bahamas for the weekend. Winner of the raffle will be chosen at SP14, and gets a free trip to SP15. Raffle tickets are $5, so you can get one (or more), every year until then. Proceeds will be used to reduce the cost for the rest of us.

If you haven't paid yet, then you must bring at least $30 with you or I'll have the Supromfficer deal with you. If you for some reason you decided not to get a shirt, bring $10 because when you see the shirts you'll want one, and we have extra.

Plus, all of you should bring extra money, because we've gone over-budget, due to low attendance and because we went totally nuts with stuff, and I'm sure once you've seen all we've done you'll be inspired to donate more. :)

SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9

Banned Items:
The following items should not be brought to or near Super Prom 9.
1. Drugs
2. Weapons (including firearms, knives, swords, missiles, tanks, heavy ordinance, spears, brass knuckles, biological weapons, nuclear bombs, grenades, tear gas, mustard gas, air-powered rifles, crossbows, fighter jets or arrows. If you can figure out a way to get a warship or submarine into the pool, that would be fine)
3. Fireworks
4. -
5. Pets
6. Vomiting Britons

SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9

Random notes:
1. There will be Bud Lite, Miller Lite, and Yuenling available, and plenty of it. If you want something else you can bring it, but no glass.
2. There will be 4 dogs present. Annie is big and lazy now, but will slober on you. Charlie is harmless, but demands that you pet him. Rocky is a younger and bigger golden retriever, and he might jump on you. Skylar is a little Cocker Spaniel. Though small and cute, be warned: This dog is pure evil. Though I will pick up the poop in the morning, all four of them will be pooping during Super Prom, so beware.
3. We'll have your t-shirts ready for you when you arrive.
4. We'll have 2 cartons of smokes there. I may smoke all of them myself, so if you plan on smoking a lot you should bring more.
5. There is now a house behind ours, which may preclude peeing behind the shed. They haven't moved in yet, but they are often seen lurking about their yard.

SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9

Awards:

King and Queen:
Awarded to the couple with the most votes. Last year's King and Queen, Shawn and Emma, will count the votes and crown the winners. After being crowned, the winners must then put on the paper bag crowns, and dive in the pool fully clothed hand-in-hand while the theme is played. Note that this hasn't been done properly sine Dave and Ash in 97. Bill and Jen just jumped in the pool, my parents didn't go in at all, Melissa and I didn't dive, and the bags came off our heads before we were in, and last year Shawn and Emma didn't dive either, and they were in their bathing suits. So I'd like to see it done right this year.

Chief's Choice (best dressed):
This goes to the person with the best, or possibly craziest, costume and/or outfit. You don't have to wear it the whole time, just long enough to make an impression. You can also have multiple outfits if you would like. This will be awarded by the Chief of Operations, Dave Carpenter.

Rookie of the Year:
Goes to the best new Superpromer, as decided by the Committee. The Committee seeks the advice of other non-rookies in deciding who to give this to.

Winner:
Goes to the person with the most points.

Trampolining:
Goes to the person with the most exciting trampoline acrobatics. Or to the person who hurts themselves the most.

Stomp Rocket:
Goes to the farthest propelled Stomp Rocket, which lands inside the yard. Avoid going over the back fence because there is another house there now. We won't have a formal, time to play Stomp Rocket time, so you can make as many attempts as you want, and just keep track of whose has gone farthest.

Chicken Limbo:
Goes to the person who lasts longest in Chicken Limbo. It's all about the spin, you need to get crawl.

Most Improved:
Goes to the person who has improved the most since last year, based on some criteria we will make up real quick.

Supromolympics:
Goes to the team of 6 that wins the Supromolympics. First Round:
Person 1: Blind Island Race
Person 2: Must knock a block the width of a pool, using a nylon filled with softballs that is tied to your waist and hanging between your legs. Can't use your hands. Picture this, it is very funny.
Persons 3&4: Double sack race.
Person 5: Must crawl under the parachute to the center, then back out. Did I mention that we're going to have a parachute?
Person 6: Croquet Spin - spin around the croquet mallet 10 times, then complete half the course. First team to the far post wins the round.

The teams that win the first round will go on to do something completely different in Round 2.

SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9

Points:
To get the points for this email, answer the following questions (from my perspective, of course):

1. Who is the greatest actress?
2. What is the greatest movie ever?
3. What is the greatest song of all time?
4. What is the best kind of meat?

The first person to respond gets 50 pts, next one 49, etc. That will be multiplied by the number right plus one, for a maximum possible of 250 pts. Note that no one has anywhere close to that many points yet.

SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9SP9

Well SPers, that is all. See you Saturday.

Subject: End of Year Report
Date: Tue, 23 Jul 2002 16:40:08 -0400 (EDT)

Chickens,

So thanks to everyone for the best Super Prom ever. Definitely nailed it this time. I've started a Super Prom 9 web page, and pictures should be up shortly, or whenever Dave feels like it. Here's the wrap-up email:

1. Budget
2. Lost & Found
3. T-shirts
4. Future plans

1. Budget:

Previous balance (as of 11/01): $750
Expenses: -$2210.92
(Super Prom 9 Planning Notebook: -$9.44
web fees for superprom.com: -$48.99
invitations: -$75.38
72 t-shirts: -$663.89
sumo wrestling suits: -$420.90
toys, decorations and prizes: -$106.44
smokes: -$43.39
giant Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head crowns: -$122.49
beer: -$390.00
food: -$330.00
)
Donations from guests: $1853.63
Donation from parents: $200
Donation from Committee: $765.95
interest: $19.14

new balance: $1377.80

Note that this budget does not include fancy cigarrettes and additional crown expenses donated by Kristen, and 2 gigantic crates donated by Bill.

2. Lost and Found:
We have the following unclaimed items:
1 XL Blue Quicksilver bathing suit
1 XXL white Billabong t-shirt
1 blue and white striped towel
1 pair sunglasses, reddish tinted, probably a girls, they're too small for me.

We also have Ben's sunglasses, Matt Morgan's Supromolympics certificate, Heather Chua's Fattest certificate, Kait's bathing suit, and everything Brian Storms took to Super Prom. Note that we also still have Kristi Coburn's Supromolympics certificate from SP2K.

3. Shirts!
There are 19 shirts left. I think there are supposed to be 15 left, so if you didn't pick one up let me know and I will set it aside for you. The rest I will try to sell to those of you foolish enough to miss the best Super Prom ever. Let me know if you want one - $10.

4. Future plans:
Well, the Committee has already agreed to hold SPX sometime next summer. Not sure yet where it will be, but I'm thinking we'll invite maybe a hundred people, and of course it will be the best Super Prom ever. If you've been missing Super Proms lately, it's time to come back.

We're taking a bit of a break for now though - I have to start concentrating on school and research if I ever want to get that degree. I'll let you know when once planning begins, and we'll probably do the first Planning Meeting the day after Thanksgiving again. Unless we don't.

Now that we have all this money, we're going to try to form the Super Prom Committee into non-profit group so it can have its own bank account, which will prevent me from embezzling the Super Prom fund. And more importantly, from paying taxes on it.

One last comment:
The purpose of this email list is for 1) Me to send out emails about important Super Prom related news, and 2) you to send out emails to plan my surprise party. You sending out emails not related to my surprise party, you not planning me a surprise party, me not planning Super Prom, and me planning my own surprise party are all things that will lead to point deduction. Note that I have conveniently scheduled my birthday this year so that Homecoming at VT is the following weekend.
